Marketing attribution

Definition

Marketing attribution is assigning credit for a conversion to the touchpoints that led to it: the ad clicked, the post seen, the email opened. Attribution models (first-touch, last-touch, data-driven) decide how that credit splits, and the choice changes which channels look worth funding.

Every model is an argument. Last-touch flatters bottom-funnel search; first-touch flatters discovery channels; data-driven models split credit algorithmically but need volume. Privacy limits and cross-device behavior mean all of them undercount something.

The mature stance is directional truth: pick a model, hold it steady, watch deltas rather than absolutes, and sanity-check against incrementality (what happens when you turn a channel off).

How Savra puts it to work

Savra reads conversions and source data live from GA4 and your ad accounts, so you can interrogate attribution in plain language and compare channels in one dashboard instead of five tabs.

People also ask

Which attribution model should I use?

GA4’s data-driven default is fine for most teams. The discipline is consistency: switch models and your history stops meaning anything.

Why don’t my ad platform and GA4 numbers match?

Each platform attributes with its own windows and counts its own conversions. They will never reconcile exactly; track trends per source.
