The First-Party Analytics Playbook
GA4, Search Console, and Ads in one brain: questions in plain English, answers from live data.

On this page
The first-party analytics playbook is a way to run marketing on live data you own instead of screenshots you paste. Connect GA4, Search Console, and Google Ads through OAuth, ask questions in plain English, and get dashboards and answers built from the real numbers. The goal is to end the ritual of assembling a reporting deck that’s already stale by the time anyone reads it.
The frustrating part is that the data is already yours. It’s sitting in accounts you own, read live by nobody, exported by hand into slides once a month. This playbook is about reading it directly and asking it real questions.
What is first-party analytics?
First-party analytics means working from data your own accounts produce, GA4, Search Console, Google Ads, your CRM, read live rather than estimated, bought, or exported by hand. It’s the most trustworthy signal you have about your own marketing, and the least used, because it lives in separate dashboards that don’t talk to each other.
Why screenshot reporting fails
Screenshot reporting fails for one structural reason: a screenshot is dead the instant you take it. You can’t drill into it, you can’t ask it a follow-up, and it shows the number without the why. By the time the deck reaches the meeting, the account has moved on, and everyone debates a picture of the past.
A screenshot answers the question you had last week. Live data answers the one you have right now.
Connect the three accounts that matter
Three connections cover most marketing decisions, and reading them together is where the leverage is:
- GA4. Traffic, conversions, and funnels: what people do on your site and where they drop.
- Search Console. Queries, impressions, and rankings: how people find you before they arrive.
- Google Ads. Spend and performance: what you’re paying to acquire each of them.
Read separately, these are three chores. Read together, they answer real questions: which search query drove the traffic that converted, and what you paid for it. First-party data beats screenshots covers what changes when the three finally share one brain.
Ask in plain English, skip the SQL
The reason most teams don’t use their own data is that the tools are hard. GA4 replaced Universal Analytics on July 1, 2023 with an event-based model that’s genuinely more powerful and genuinely more confusing, and its exploration reports assume you enjoy building them. The way around it is to ask in business terms and let the tool translate: "which pages leak the most signups this month" instead of a custom exploration with six dimensions.
Building a useful view from the questions you actually have is its own small skill, covered in build a GA4 dashboard in plain English.
Design A/B tests you can trust
An experiment is only as good as the numbers you judge it by. Design the test, then read its result against your real first-party conversions, not a proxy metric that moves for unrelated reasons. Reading outcomes against live data is what turns "the new page feels better" into "the new page converts 14% more of the same traffic."
From data to decision, in your voice
The point of analytics is a decision, not a chart. The last mile is turning the numbers into a recommendation a human can act on, stated in plain language and in your brand’s voice, so the insight lands instead of getting lost in a dashboard nobody opens twice.
Run the playbook
Savra runs this as one agent: native OAuth to GA4, Search Console, and Google Ads, dashboards built on demand from live data, A/B tests designed and read against real numbers, and a research band for market context, all narrated back in your voice. The data was always yours; this is what it looks like to finally read it live.

Frequently asked questions
- What is first-party data in marketing?
- First-party data is information from your own connected accounts and properties, GA4, Search Console, Google Ads, your CRM, read directly rather than estimated or bought from a third party. It’s the most trustworthy data you have about your own marketing, and for most teams it’s also the least used, because it sits in separate dashboards nobody has time to reconcile.
- Is GA4 data live, or exported?
- It can be either, and that’s the whole point. Savra connects to GA4 through OAuth you control and reads the data live, so a dashboard reflects what happened this morning rather than a screenshot pasted into last week’s deck. The moment reporting becomes a manual export, it starts aging, and decisions get made on stale numbers.
- Do I need SQL to build a GA4 dashboard?
- No. You ask for the view you want in plain English and it gets built from live GA4 data, with no SQL, Looker, or data team required. GA4’s event model is powerful but genuinely confusing, so the useful move is to ask in business terms, "where are conversions coming from this month," and let the tool translate that into the query.
- Can it design and read A/B tests?
- Yes. Savra helps design experiments and then reads the results against your real first-party numbers, so a test’s outcome is measured on actual conversions rather than a vanity metric. Reading results against live data is what keeps an A/B test from becoming an argument about whose dashboard to believe.
